Join us for a poetry writing workshop with legendary local poet Marvin Tate.
Marvin Tate, poet, performer, visual artist and author, has appeared on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, National Public Radio’s This American Life, WTTW’s Arts Across America and has performed with Amiri Baraka, Ken Nordine, Nikki Giovanni, The Drive By Truckers, Kelly Hogan, Tortoise, Annie Sprinkle, Oscar Brown, Jr., Angelo Moore of the band Fishbone and the late Malachi Thompson. After years with Marvin Tate’s D-Settlement, he is now fronting the all-star soul band Baby Alright. For the past decade Marvin has taught poetry in Chicago Public Schools as a poet-in-residence with the Poetry Center of Chicago’s Hands On Stanzas fellowship program for which he was awarded the Gwendolyn Brooks Hands on Stanzas Award in 2003.
