More Performance Information:

  • We’re taking the words off the page and making them real!
  • Reader’s Theatre scripts are excerpted from various young adult books that are in the Library’s Teen Volume collections and book discussion programs.
  • When the adaptations for Reader’s Theater scripts are drafted, they must then be sent to the publishers for permission to perform the scripts.  In order to respect the author’s and publisher’s requests, we have stayed as close to their original text as possible.
  • A script is not intended to represent the whole of a book, and even those that have multiple scenes still manage to leave much of the story untold.  One of the goals of the Reader’s Theater project is to entice teens to read the titles independently, so many attention-grabbing scenes have been adapted for the performances.
  • Reader’s Theatre performances are made possible through a grant from the McCormick Tribune Foundation through the Chicago Public Library Foundation.
